Benslow Care Homes - Benslow Nursing Home Benslow Care Homes - Benslow Nursing Home
Benslow Nursing Home was built in Hitchin in the early Victorian years. It still bears four bricks inscribed with the initials of four members of the local Ransom family who we believe commissioned the house in 1854. The striking redbrick house is built on a chalk cliff overlooking the railway station. From the upper floor you can enjoy panoramic views of Hitchin and the surrounding countryside. In 1989 'The College for Women' leased the building until October 1869 when its present site, 'Girton College' Cambridge was opened. Since then the house has seen various changes such as its use as a Maternity Home and in recent times a Nursing Home. In December 2002 the building was closed for a full renovation and refurbishment in order to meet the current Health and Safety requirements and the National Care Standards. The finished product exceeds all minimum requirements whilst retaining many of its Victorian Features. Our principle aim is to maintain the highest level of care, health and safety of our users. Benslow Nursing Home aims to provide comfortable, homely, individual nursing and pastoral care. We strongly encourage the participation of service users and families in the planning of care.
